FX has officially handed a series order to Very Young Frankenstein, a new comedy series inspired by the legendary 1974 Mel Brooks classic, widely considered one of the greatest parody comedies in cinema history.

Brought to life by 20th Television, the upcoming project features a standout cast led by absurd comedy maestro Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, and Spencer House. The pilot episode also features notable appearances from Kumail Nanjiani and veteran actor Cary Elwes, who steps into the role of the US President.

Very Young Frankenstein brings together some of the industry’s finest comedic minds, spearheaded by What We Do in the Shadows collaborators Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi, and Garrett Basch. Robinson penned the script for the pilot, while Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi sat in the director’s chair. In an exciting return, comedy genius Mel Brooks, who co-wrote and directed the original 1974 film, is personally on board as an executive producer, alongside original producer Michael Gruskoff and Kevin Salter.

FX Entertainment President Nick Grad highlighted that Very Young Frankenstein will seamlessly blend the beloved legacy of the classic film with the inventive, irreverent, and modern spirit that defines FX comedies. The highly anticipated production is set to air on FX linear channels and Hulu in the United States, while reaching international audiences globally via Disney+.
