Paramount Pictures is revisiting one of the most recognizable romantic comedies of the 2000s, with a sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days now in early development.

Kate Hudson, who starred as Andie Anderson in the 2003 original, is attached to produce the follow-up alongside Stacey Sher.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel is still at a very early stage, and Paramount is currently looking for a screenwriter, meaning there is no confirmed storyline or creative team beyond the producers at this point. The studio and filmmakers are reportedly hoping to reunite Hudson with Matthew McConaughey, who played advertising executive Benjamin Barry, although neither star has formally signed on to return yet.

The original How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, directed by Donald Petrie, centered on Andie, a magazine writer who sets out to drive a man away for an article, and Ben, who bets that he can make her fall in love with him within ten days. Their competing schemes eventually turn into a genuine romance. Paramount’s official synopsis similarly describes the film as a battle of wills between Andie and Ben.

Released in February 2003, the film became a commercial success, earning around $178.5 million worldwide against a reported $50 million production budget.

With more than two decades having passed since the original, the potential sequel would mark a reunion for Hudson and McConaughey if the studio succeeds in bringing both actors back. For now, however, the project remains in development and further details about its plot, cast and release timeline have yet to be announced.
