Netflix has released the first teaser for its upcoming six-part thriller Below, starring Josh Hartnett.

The series is set to make its world premiere in the Primetime section of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 10, 2026, before debuting globally on Netflix on October 8.

Set in a small coastal community in Newfoundland, Canada, Below centers on a mysterious sea creature that begins terrorizing the town. Hartnett plays fisherman Calvin Penney, a man still haunted by the unexplained death of his father years earlier. As the danger escalates, Calvin joins forces with a visiting marine researcher in an effort to protect his family and neighbors while uncovering the creature’s origins and the long-buried secrets hidden beneath the island’s surface.

The ensemble cast also includes Charlie Heaton, Mackenzie Davis, Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn, Rohan Campbell, and Willow Kean. The series is created, written and showrun by Jesse McKeown, while Hartnett also serves as an executive producer.

Filming took place in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and although the project was first announced in February 2025, Hartnett joined the production shortly afterward.
