Warner Bros has officially dropped the first trailer for Digger, the highly anticipated film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and starring Tom Cruise.
In a striking on-screen transformation, Cruise portrays Digger Rockwell, a blunt, Southern-talking, older, potbellied oil baron who may have triggered a massive global ecological disaster centered around a rapidly melting iceberg crisis. Reflecting on the intense physical and stylistic preparation required to step into the shoes of this unique character, the actor remarked that it took him forty years to become this role.
Digger is already being described as a Doctor Strangelove for the modern political era, rich with sharp satire and heavy political commentary. This is particularly evident in the character of the standing United States President, played by John Goodman, whose portrayal serves as a distinct, blended caricature of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

On the technical side, Iñárritu has reunited with his Oscar-winning The Revenant cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki. Together, they shot the film in VistaVision format using a vintage camera originally designed in 1954, ensuring a visually spectacular and textured aesthetic. Audiences won’t have to wait too long to see the final result, as the movie, featuring the same trailer that first stunned theater exhibitors at CinemaCon back in April, is officially set to hit theaters on October 2.
