Channel 4 has officially greenlit a second season for its smash-hit period drama A Woman of Substance following an unprecedented run on the broadcaster’s digital platform.
Averaging an impressive three million viewers per episode, the rags-to-riches drama has officially crowned itself as Channel 4’s most-watched drama on streaming since the premiere of It’s a Sin five years ago.
Produced by Banijay UK’s The Forge Entertainment, critically acclaimed A Woman of Substance is based on the iconic, bestselling novel series by Barbara Taylor Bradford. Starring Brenda Blethyn (Vera) and Jessica Reynolds (Kneecap), the upcoming eight-part season (consisting of 60-minute episodes) will feature a significant time jump, shifting the narrative lens from the 1910s into the vibrant atmosphere of the 1920s.
Behind the scenes, screenwriters Katherine Jakeways and Roanne Bardsley are set to return to pen the new scripts, with Richard Senior directing the block. Production and filming for the highly anticipated sophomore season are slated to kick off later this year on location in Yorkshire.
