NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, Peacock, has made a decisive move into the rapidly growing micro drama market by securing a major content deal with the popular vertical entertainment app, ReelShort.
This partnership brings a “spicy” package of highly addictive titles to Peacock’s mobile app, including fan favorites such as Straight A Pregnancy, Fated to My Forbidden Alpha, Duke with Benefits, and Call Boy I Met in Paris. Spanning genres from melodrama and romance to fantasy and young adult fiction, these series are specifically designed to cater to the mobile-first habits of modern viewers.
Peacock’s leadership frames this acquisition as a direct response to the “skyrocketing” popularity of short-form content in the U.S., where smartphone users are increasingly gravitating toward high-stakes, fast-paced narratives. By integrating these 1-to-2-minute episodes into its platform, Peacock aims to offer “snackable” storytelling that fits seamlessly into the daily routines of its users, perfect for short commutes or quick breaks. This initiative is unfolding alongside the streamer’s broader expansion into original unscripted micro dramas, such as Campus Confidential: Miami and Salon Confessionals with Madison LeCroy, produced in collaboration with Bravo.
Aaron Markowitz, Peacock’s VP of Programming, underscored that this pivot is driven by the rapid evolution of audience behavior. While traditional premium long-form television remains a cornerstone of the platform, Markowitz notes that viewers are increasingly embracing new formats tailored for different viewing habits. According to Peacock, these micro dramas, which typically feature 50 to over 100 quick-fire episodes, represent a sophisticated “new generation” of content consumption, transforming how audiences engage with dramatic and steamy storytelling in the digital age.
