Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has officially unveiled its debut foray into the micro drama market for Latin America during the recent LA Screenings.

Produced in collaboration with VIP 2000, the new micro drama series, titled No es un Mito: La Llorona (It’s Not a Myth: La Llorona), is designed specifically for digital-first audiences, consisting of 60 episodes that are approximately one minute long and filmed in a vertical format.

The micro drama series reimagines the iconic Latin American myth of La Llorona, the “Weeping Woman”, through a lens of supernatural horror. The narrative follows a man who, after surviving a terrifying encounter, discovers he is a descendant of the very person who destroyed La Llorona’s life generations ago. Marked by her curse and haunted by her spirit, he is forced to team up with a fearless paranormal investigator to uncover the truth and survive before he becomes the legend’s next victim.

This series serves as the inaugural project under the “No es un Mito” banner, marking a broader strategic pivot for SPT Latin America. The company aims to explore high-end storytelling formats by adapting culturally resonant urban legends into premium, short-form content tailored for younger, mobile-centric viewers. Interestingly, this move comes only two weeks after SPT’s President of International Production, Wayne Garvie, publicly dismissed the viability of vertical scripted programming at the Creative Cities Convention in Liverpool, noting at the time that the company had no interest in the model as they did not see a sustainable path for it.
