One of the cult thrillers of the 1990s, Cape Fear is returning as a star-studded TV adaptation for Apple TV+.

The lead cast includes Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson. The series also stars CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov.

The story centers on happily married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, whose lives are upended when Max Cady, portrayed by Javier Bardem, the dangerous criminal they helped send to prison, is released and seeks revenge.

The series is created and showrun by Nick Antosca, known for Candy. The production is backed by a high-profile creative team, with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg serving as executive producers.

The original Cape Fear (1991) is widely regarded by audiences and critics as “one of the best thrillers of the 1990s.” The new adaptation aims to remain faithful to the classic story while delivering a contemporary take.

The series will premiere on Friday, June 5, with its first two episodes, followed by weekly releases through the end of July.
