The number of streaming services in the US has continued to grow, with the market now encompassing 275 subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platforms, 141 advertising-based video-on-demand (AVOD) services and 60 free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) services. The figures come from Parks Associates’ latest Streaming Video Tracker and highlight how streaming businesses are increasingly combining subscription, advertising and free-content models.
The research also identifies 243 premium SVOD services, 85 transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) platforms, 110 FAST channels, 55 ad-supported SVOD services and eight virtual multichannel video programming distributors (vMVPDs). These categories can overlap, reflecting the growing number of hybrid business models across the industry.
Why Are Streaming Platforms Moving Beyond Subscriptions?
As competition intensifies, streaming companies are exploring different ways to generate revenue while retaining subscribers and attracting advertisers. Advertising-supported tiers, free streaming services and hybrid subscription models are becoming increasingly important parts of the market.
Parks Associates will examine these changes at its ninth annual Future of Video: Business of Streaming conference, taking place on November 17–18, 2026, in Marina del Rey, California.
What Are the Biggest Streaming Monetization Trends in 2026?
The conference will feature a session titled “Hybrid Models & Evolving Monetization: AVOD, SVOD, FAST,” moderated by Michael Goodman, Parks Associates’ director of entertainment research. Speakers include executives from Jukin Media, FAST Studios, FUEL TV and Swerve TV.
“The streaming market is evolving beyond traditional subscription models, with companies testing new combinations of advertising, premium content, and free services,” Goodman said.
He added that providers need sustainable strategies balancing advertising, pricing, content investment and customer retention.
The figures underline a central challenge for the streaming business: as the number of services grows, companies must find ways to stand out while building revenue models that can sustain long-term growth.
