Lee Sung Jin is expanding his Netflix partnership with the launch of Lila Pictures, a new production company developing scripted series and feature films exclusively for the streamer. Its first projects include The Only Child, starring Ali Wong, and Citizen’s Arrest, created by Beef writer Gene Hong.
The launch comes with two series already in development at Netflix, bringing together Lee and several collaborators from Beef. The company has also appointed Hyunji Ward as senior vice president of film and television. Ward previously spent four years at Dakota Johnson’s production company, TeaTime Pictures.
What Is Lila Pictures, Lee Sung Jin’s New Production Company?
Lila Pictures will serve as a home for Lee’s film and television projects under his renewed Netflix partnership. Beyond developing his own work, the company is also positioned to collaborate with other writers and creative talent.
The name Lila comes from a Sanskrit word that can be interpreted as “the divine play.” Announcing the launch, Lee highlighted his excitement about building the company alongside Netflix and longtime collaborators Ali Wong and Gene Hong.
Ward’s appointment adds an executive with experience across both film and television development. Before joining Lila Pictures, she worked at TeaTime Pictures, where she was involved in projects including Daddio, Splitsville and Slip.
What Is Ali Wong’sThe Only Child About?
The first project announced under Lila Pictures is The Only Child, a limited drama series that reunites Lee with Beef star Ali Wong. Wong will star and produce, playing the mother of a professional archer preparing to compete for her first gold medal.
The project will also involve playwright and Industry writer Ava Wong Davies. While further casting and production details have not been announced, the series marks another collaboration between Lee and Wong following their work on the first season of Beef.

What Is Gene Hong’s Citizen’s Arrest About?
The second project, Citizen’s Arrest, is a drama series created by Gene Hong, who previously worked as a writer on Beef.
The series follows two longtime friends and neighbours who become increasingly consumed by investigating a local crime. Their amateur investigation gradually becomes a way to avoid confronting the problems in their own lives.
With The Only Child and Citizen’s Arrest, Lila Pictures is beginning its Netflix slate with two distinct stories led by writers and performers connected to Lee’s previous work.
Will Beef Return for Season 3?
The launch of Lila Pictures and the announcement of its first two projects do not include confirmation of a third season of Beef. Lee’s new company expands his creative work at Netflix beyond the anthology series, but the streamer has not announced another instalment.
The second season of Beef, which continued the anthology format with a new cast and storyline, received 16 Emmy nominations in 2026, making it the year’s most-nominated limited series. Lee’s latest move places him in a broader creative and production role at Netflix, with Lila Pictures set to develop projects across film and television.
