Disney+’s critically acclaimed Marvel show Wonder Man, bids farewell to the screens following the cancellation of its second season.

Disney+ announced Season 2 renewal for Wonder Man approximately 2 months after its premiere. However, according to sources; writers never got brought back to the writers’ room, and were informed that they could work on other projects. While Wonder Man is not returning, the characters introduced through the series could still appear in future Marvel projects.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen, who got nominated for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for his work on the show confirmed the news on his Instagram account and thanked the viewers. His performance in Wonder Man and the award he won for the HBO series Watchmen made him the only live-action actor to earn Emmy nod for projects from both Marvel and DC.

Wonder Man got praise for its new approach on the superhero genre following its January debut. The series won critical acclaim with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes Rating. It entered the Nielsen streaming top 10 charts in 8th place with 618 million minutes of watch time however, it couldn’t maintain this momentum in the following weeks.

The series described by Disney+ as: “A superhero satire about Simon Williams’ struggle behind the scenes of Hollywood as he tries to revive his acting career” was created by Destin Daniel Cretton, and Andrew Guest. Yahya Abdul-Mateen, Ben Kingsley, Demetrius Grosse, X Mayo, Arian Moayed, Olivia Thirlby, and Zlatko Burić make up the cast.

With the cancellation of Wonder Man, only Loki and Daredevil: Born Again have managed to span more than one season among the live-action series Marvel Studios produced for Disney+. While WandaVision, Agatha All Along, and VisionQuest which is set to premiere on October 14 share the same universe, they are not considered as direct following seasons.
