Universal became the first studio this year to cross $4 billion at the global box office.

Universal had many blockbuster hits this year such as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael, Obsession, Disclosure Day, Minions & Monsters and The Odyssey. With Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey reaching $911 million worldwide, the studio generated $1.53 billion domestically and $2.48 billion internationally. This makes Universal the first studio to hit $4 billion at the global box office in 2026. This is the first time the studio has reached this milestone since 2023 and the fifth time it has crossed this mark in Universal’s history.

The Odyssey occupied virtually all IMAX screens during the weekend Disney’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day grossed $927 million worldwide, except in China, Japan and South Korea where The Odyssey hasn’t launched yet.

Universal’s key achievements thus far include releasing two out of the three films which have crossed the $1 billion mark (The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael), as well as leading the global box office for 10 weekends in 2026. Additionally, Universal and Focus accounted for five of 2026’s top 10 highest-grossing films worldwide, including three of the Top Five (Michael at No. 2, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie at No. 3, The Odyssey at No. 4, Obsession at No. 9 and Minions & Monsters at No. 10).

The studio also internationally distributed three of the top 5 highest-grossing films worldwide (The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael and The Odyssey). Obsession has officially become Focus Features’ highest-grossing film of all time worldwide, as well as being Blumhouse Atomic Monster’s highest-grossing film, pulling in $475M.
