Sony Pictures made waves at CinemaCon by announcing an R-rated animated film adaptation of FromSoftware’s legendary video game, Bloodborne.

Embracing the gritty and blood-soaked essence that defined the original title, the studio confirmed the project will target an adult audience to maintain artistic integrity. Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, assured fans that the film will stay “very true” to the gothic atmosphere of Yharnam and its nightmare-inducing creatures.

Bloodborne feature will be a collaborative effort between Sony Pictures, PlayStation Productions, and Lyrical Animation, notably featuring prominent YouTuber Seán McLoughlin (JackSepticEye) as a co-producer. With his deep connection to the game and an audience of 48 million fans, McLoughlin brings a unique level of authenticity to the project.

This announcement follows a string of high-profile adaptations from Sony, including Justin Lin’s upcoming Helldivers starring Jason Momoa and the recently wrapped The Legend of Zelda live-action film. Driven by the massive box office success of recent hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sony is clearly accelerating its investment in gaming IP to capitalize on the genre’s global commercial appeal.
