Paramount+ has officially ordered a sequel series to the 1995 cult classic Clueless, with Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her iconic role as Cher Horowitz.
Taking place more than three decades after the events of the original film, the series follows Cher as a successful businesswoman whose confidence is put to the test when she faces the challenges of raising a teenage daughter.
The project is produced by CBS Studios and is created and written by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage (The OC), and Jordan Weiss (Freakier Friday). Production is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in 2027.
In addition to returning in front of the camera, Silverstone will also serve as an executive producer. She is joined behind the scenes by Clueless director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence, who are both returning as executive producers for the new series.
This will not be the first television adaptation of Clueless. A previous TV version aired for three seasons between 1996 and 1999 on ABC and UPN, with Rachel Blanchard taking over the role of Cher, while Stacey Dash reprised her film role as Dionne.
Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at Paramount+, said that bringing Clueless back to Los Angeles is both a tribute to the city’s central role in the original film and an opportunity to invest in its talented creative community and production crews.
