Spain ranked seventh among countries of origin for fiction premieres worldwide in the first half of 2026, accounting for 30 titles and a 5.2% share of the 847 premieres tracked across 44 markets. The findings come from Spanish Fiction 2026: Between New Stories and New Seasons, a report presented by Audiovisual from Spain and prepared by GECA, the audiovisual consultancy, using Teleformat data from January to June 2026.
The report was presented by Gloria Saló, GECA’s Director of Production and Content Consulting. It examines the evolution of Spanish fiction, the platforms commissioning new titles and the stories shaping the market.

Streaming Platforms Lead Spain’s Fiction Market
Spain’s annual fiction premieres grew by 83% between 2021 and 2025, rising from 40 to 73 titles. In the first half of 2026, however, the country recorded 30 premieres, down from 33 in the same period last year.
Streaming platforms accounted for 90% of Spanish fiction premieres, while linear television registered just three titles. Atresplayer Premium, Movistar Plus+, Netflix and Prime Video each recorded four premieres.
Drama remained the leading genre, representing 50% of Spanish fiction premieres, followed by comedy at 26.7% and dramedy at 13.3%.

Original Productions and New Seasons Ahead
For the second half of 2026, the report identified 24 upcoming releases, including 20 original productions and three new seasons. Of the 30 titles that premiered in the first half of the year, 16 were original series, while seven were based on literary properties.
The findings highlight the central role of streaming platforms in Spain’s fiction market, alongside continued investment in original stories, adaptations and returning series.
