The first feature film adaptation of P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast’s bestselling young adult fantasy series House of Night has appointed Johanna Watts as director, with casting underway and production targeted for early 2027.
Watts takes over from previously announced director Rain Li. The project is produced by Victor Hadida for Davis Films and Molly Hassell for Hassell Free Productions, with author P.C. Cast serving as executive producer. Highland Film Group is handling international sales and will continue promoting the film at the American Film Market.
House of Night: A Vampire Fantasy With a Global Fanbase
The House of Night books follow Zoey, a teenager marked to become a vampyre who enters a specialised boarding school where young people undergo the transformation. As she discovers her unusual abilities, Zoey must navigate magic, danger and shifting loyalties while confronting a growing threat.
The franchise has sold more than 31 million copies across 40-plus countries and been translated into 30 languages. Its books have also spent hundreds of weeks on major bestseller lists.
Watts, whose previous work includes the short film Career Girl, will make her feature-film debut with the project. The creative team also includes casting director Denise Chamian (Top Gun: Maverick), production designer Clint Wallace and costume designer Mona May (Clueless).
Producers and author P.C. Cast have praised Watts’s understanding of the series’ mythology and her vision for bringing its characters to the screen. The director said she aims to honour the books’ themes of connection and belonging while introducing their world to film audiences.
