The BBC has officially greenlit a brand-new mockumentary series featuring Diane Morgan’s beloved comedy character Philomena Cunk in Cunk on Cinema.

The 30-minute, three-part series is a collaborative creation between Morgan and Black Mirror mastermind Charlie Brooker, with Pacesetter Production leading the project.

In her signature idiosyncratic style, Philomena Cunk will explore the sprawling history of the silver screen, tracing the medium’s evolution from the very first cameras to the futuristic implications of AI in filmmaking. While domestic audiences can catch the series on BBC Two and iPlayer, Netflix has secured the global streaming rights for viewers outside of the UK and Ireland.

Reflecting on the character’s massive cultural impact, BBC Director of Comedy Jon Petrie noted that following the immense success of previous “Cunk” iterations, the network is eager to see what unique insights she unearths in the world of cinema.

Jon Petrie, director of comedy at the BBC, said: “This series follows in the hugely successful footsteps of other Cunk projects, so we can’t wait to see what she unearths this time around.”
