Mike Flanagan is reportedly in negotiations to join Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming Warhammer 40,000 series in a major creative capacity.

Beyond serving as an executive producer, he is expected to take on the roles of showrunner, writer, and director, further strengthening his growing partnership with the studio.

Amazon MGM secured the global adaptation rights to Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe in December 2024, with Henry Cavill attached from the outset as both star and executive producer. Set in a grim far-future where humanity faces internal betrayal, alien civilizations, and malevolent gods, the series aims to bring one of the world’s most celebrated tabletop franchises to the screen.

Mike Flanagan’s involvement follows the multi-year overall deal he signed with Amazon MGM Studios in March 2026, with Carrie becoming the first project developed under that agreement. Widely recognized for acclaimed series including The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Midnight Club, Mike Flanagan has also built a strong reputation in feature filmmaking with titles such as Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, The Life of Chuck, and the upcoming The Exorcist: Martyrs.

The journey to bring Warhammer 40,000 to Amazon began with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Natalie Viscuso, who partnered with Henry Cavill to secure the rights before presenting the project to the studio. Alongside Cavill, the executive producing team also includes Games Workshop’s Andy Smillie and Max Bottrill, as Amazon MGM continues developing the ambitious adaptation.
