Amazon Prime’s upcoming God of War series introduces a host of new characters alongside familiar faces from the games.

The show will cover the events of the last two games, following Kratos and his son Atreus on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Central to the story is the father-son dynamic: Kratos teaches Atreus to become a better god, while Atreus helps Kratos learn to be a better human.

God of War has already been given a two-season order, with Ronald D. Moore serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The first two episodes are directed by Frederick E.O. Toye. Production is handled by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions.

Existing cast includes Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus, with Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Max Parker as Heimdall, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur.

Joining the cast, Louis Cunningham will play Modi, Thor and Sif’s middle child, a gentle and obsessively curious boy. Ben Chapple takes on Magni, the eldest son of Thor and Sif, who is adventurous, handsome, and protective of his younger brother. Evelyn Miller portrays Gna, Odin’s loyal and disciplined Valkyrie commander, while Island Austin will appear as Thrud, the youngest child of Thor and Sif, known for his inquisitive and peaceful nature.

While anticipation for the series is high, the first official image released by Prime Video received criticism from God of War creator David Jaffe, who called it “terrible” and said none of the characters looked appealing. Despite this, Jaffe praised Moore’s vision for the show and expressed confidence in the series itself.
