Netflix has officially acquired the broadcasting rights to Ricky Gervais’ highly anticipated new stand-up special, Legend.
The special is set to be recorded during Ricky Gervais’ upcoming global stand-up tour, which kicks off in the UK this September. This project marks a continuation of the long-standing partnership between the streaming giant and the comedian, serving as Gervais’ fifth stand-up special on Netflix following the successes of Humanity, Supernature, Armageddon, and Mortality.
Reflecting on the new show, Gervais described it as his most personal work to date, boldly stating, “Because both cancel culture, and most people I knew growing up, are dead, I can really say what the f**k I want now.” While keeping the exact figures under wraps, he also teased the financial scale of the project, noting it as his favorite deal so far.
Beyond stand-up, the collaboration between Netflix and Gervais continues to expand with his new animated series, Alley Cats which is scheduled to premiere on the platform on August 7. Ahead of the release, Gervais is set to attend the Annecy International Film Festival next week to deliver an exclusive masterclass on the upcoming show.
