The upcoming Australian horror-comedy series Gnomes, which was commissioned by local streaming platform Stan and is set to premiere this year, has successfully secured major global distribution deals.

The broadcasting rights for the series have been acquired by Disney+ for the UK and Ireland, and by AMC Global Media for Spain and Portugal, while the show is also slated to air on ZDFneo in Germany. Starring Asa Butterfield, widely known for his role in Sex Education, the series is set in a fading small town that finds itself under siege from an army of murderous garden gnomes on the eve of its first annual “Gnome-a-Palooza” festival.

The project is being brought to life as a coproduction between local Australian production companies Screen Invaders and Total Fiction, alongside Germany’s Network Movie, which is owned by ZDF Studios. Created by Screen Invaders founder Joel Kohn, the series is distributed internationally by the Los Angeles-based company Happy Accidents.

The scripts have been penned by Australian actors and comedy writers Tegan Higginbotham and Paul Verhoeven, with a production team that includes Joel Kohn as producer, and John Molloy, Richard Kelly, Holly A. Hines, and Eric Jarboe serving as executive producers.
