The highly anticipated feature film adaptation of the global gaming phenomenon Elden Ring is officially moving forward under a prestigious partnership between A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment.
Alex Garland, the visionary director behind Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War, will both write and direct the project, fulfilling a personal passion as a longtime fan of the game. Starring Kit Connor and Ben Whishaw, the film has recently expanded its star-studded ensemble to include Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, and Nick Offerman. Adding even more weight to the production, George R. R. Martin, who co-created the game’s expansive lore, serves as a producer alongside DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich.
Currently in production and being shot specifically for IMAX, the film is scheduled for a global theatrical release on March 3, 2028. Since its 2022 debut, Elden Ring has become a cultural juggernaut, selling over 30 million copies and earning more than 400 “Game of the Year” awards.
By bringing A24’s reputation for prestige storytelling to Hidetaka Miyazaki’s meticulously crafted dark fantasy world, Elden Ring is set to raise the bar for video game adaptations. This epic cinematic journey promises to translate the vast, atmospheric environments and deep narrative complexity of the Lands Between into a landmark experience for both gamers and cinephiles alike.
