One of the landmark titles in the global success story of Turkish drama, 1001 Nights (Binbir Gece), is set to return to screens through a new Greek adaptation titled One Night Only.
The project was highlighted by Şenay Taş, Sales Director for CEE & Greece at Global Agency, during her presentation at NEM Dubrovnik 2026.
Reflecting on the original series, Taş recalled the excitement surrounding its 2006 premiere, when millions of viewers across Türkiye tuned in to watch the highly anticipated drama. The story follows a widowed architect who is faced with an impossible dilemma as she struggles to secure treatment for her seriously ill son.
According to Taş, 1001 Nights played a pivotal role in the international expansion of Turkish drama. After being sold to the Balkans, where it achieved remarkable ratings success, the series became one of the first Turkish dramas to capture the attention of audiences beyond Türkiye’s borders.
“Once 1001 Nights was sold in the Balkans, the ratings were incredibly strong. We can definitely say that 1001 Nights opened up the world for Turkish drama,” Taş said during the session.
She also highlighted the series’ impact on Latin America, a market traditionally dominated by local telenovelas. “For a long time, Latin America resisted Turkish dramas, believing they already had everything they needed in their own productions. But 1001 Nights was the title that ultimately opened the door to the region, and audiences there completely fell in love with Turkish series,” she explained.
Emphasizing the cultural influence of Turkish content, Taş shared a personal anecdote about meeting a Brazilian tourist in Istanbul. The visitor told her that seeing the Bosphorus Bridge in person was a dream inspired by watching 1001 Nights, demonstrating the powerful connection Turkish dramas can create between cultures and countries.
“Turkish dramas are building a huge cultural bridge between nations. That is incredibly important and powerful,” Taş noted.
During the presentation, Taş also announced the upcoming Greek adaptation of the series. Titled One Night Only, the project will be produced by Kapa Studios and broadcast by Mega TV. Praising the new title chosen by the broadcaster, Taş described it as “fantastic” and introduced the adaptation as the next chapter in the enduring legacy of one of Turkish drama’s most influential series.
