BuzzFeed Studios and vertical video platform MuVpix have entered into a partnership to produce more than 100 microdramas over the next two years.

The first project to emerge from the collaboration will be Romeo & Juliet, Reimagined, a modern retelling of Shakespeare’s classic set in the criminal underworld of Los Angeles, which is scheduled to premiere in August.

Under the agreement, the companies will develop original IP, reimagined classics, and shoppable formats designed specifically for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, FAST/CTV platforms, and MuVpix Originals. The partnership combines MuVpix’s distribution network and technology with BuzzFeed Studios’ production capabilities, marketing expertise, and extensive social media reach.

Romeo & Juliet, Reimagined stars Gabrielle Faith Brown and Clayton Carrozza in the lead roles and was filmed in both horizontal and vertical formats. The project was created by Max Decker and Dario Herrera, with Decker directing and Herrera serving as creative director.

MuVpix founder John Lewis said the partnership would raise the bar for both the scale and production quality of microdramas. For BuzzFeed Studios, the agreement represents one of its biggest investments in the microdrama space since Byron Allen acquired BuzzFeed.
