Rex – Vienna Calling has continued its successful European rollout with a strong debut on Italy’s RAI 2, where the series ranked as the second most-watched programme in prime time.
The crime drama attracted more than 750,000 viewers and posted a 5.6% audience share, outperforming the long-running US medical series Chicago Med in the same time slot.
The broadcaster also expects the show’s total audience to surpass one million viewers once on-demand and catch-up viewing figures are included, further strengthening its launch performance.
The Italian premiere follows encouraging results in the German-speaking market, where the series had already exceeded expectations. In Germany, SAT.1 drew nearly 1.6 million viewers, while the Austrian premiere on ORF reached as many as 883,000 viewers, confirming the franchise’s continued appeal across multiple territories.
Produced by MR-Film in collaboration with ORF and SAT.1, Rex – Vienna Calling is distributed internationally by Beta Film. The production also received financial backing from FISAplus, Televisionfund Austria and Lower Austria, supporting the latest chapter of the long-running police dog franchise.
