Winners of the 8th Sabanci Foundation Short Film Competition Announced

The winners of the Short Film Competition, organised by Sabancı Foundation for the eighth time this year with the slogan “Short Film Long Impact”, have been announced. The award ceremony of the competition held at Sabancı Centre with the theme of “Water Crisis” was hosted by Güler Sabancı, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Sabancı Foundation.

Within the scope of the competition, 12 works made it to the finals and the first prize was awarded to director Can Yeşiloğlu for his film Düşlerdeki Hayat (Life in Dreams). Güler Sabancı, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Sabancı Foundation, presented the award to Yeşiloğlu.

The second prize was awarded to Cihan Yıldırım, the director of the film Sona Doğru (Towards the End), by Nevgül Bilsel Safkan, Sabancı Foundation General Manager, while the third prize was presented to Mehmet Gürü Avcu, the director of the film Antroposen (Anthropocene), by Zeynep Atakan, the art director of the competition.

The Honourable Mention Award was given to Sinan Kaldan for his film Vahşi (Wild), while the Social Impact Award went to Cihan Yıldırım for his film Sona Doğru (Towards the End), which also won the second prize.

NAMES ON THE JURY

The jury of the 8th Short Film Competition was composed of film critic Alin Taşçıyan, actors of theatre and important productions Salih Bademci and Tilbe Saran, producer and director Jamillah Van Der Lust Hulst from world cinema, and creative producer and script consultant Suzanne Pradel.

Journalist Nilay Örnek, Architect Özgül Öztürk and Social Entrepreneur Yasemin Kırkağaçoğlu took part in the Social Impact Jury of the competition.

FILMMAKERS HAVE INTERNALISED ‘WATER CRISIS’ AND CREATED STRIKING WORKS

Speaking at the award ceremony, Sabancı Foundation Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Güler Sabancı said, “This year’s theme of the competition is ‘Water Crisis’, which is seen as one of the most important problems of the entire planet now and in the future. I am happy to see that filmmakers have internalised this issue and created striking works.”

The first prize of the Sabancı Foundation Short Film Competition was awarded 60 thousand TL, the second prize was awarded 40 thousand TL and the third prize was awarded 25 thousand TL. For the first time this year, the Social Impact Award was also granted with 25 thousand TL.
