Amazon’s digital streaming platform, Prime Video, has officially acquired the US broadcasting rights for the BBC’s coming-of-age drama series What it Feels Like for a Girl.
Adapted from the memoir by British journalist and author Paris Lees, What it Feels Like for a Girl follows the story of a teenager who escapes a former mining town and gets swept into the vibrant underground club scene. Produced by Hera Pictures in association with ITV Studios, the eight-part series features a directorial team consisting of Brian Welsh, Ng Choon Ping, and Marie Kristiansen.
Set in early 2000s Britain, the drama sheds light on queer working-class life while exploring universal themes such as the heartbreak of first love, the struggle for belonging, and the challenges of growing up.
The series, which premiered on the BBC last year and is distributed internationally by ITV Studios, will launch on Prime Video in the United States just in time for Pride Month.
