Japanese production company THE SEVEN has revealed the first teaser for Rock, Paper, Landmine, a new live-action psychological drama based on Yugo Aosaki’s award-winning mystery novel Glico with Landmines. The eight-part series will premiere worldwide on Prime Video on November 13, 2026.

Produced by THE SEVEN with the backing of Amazon MGM Studios, the series brings one of Japan’s most acclaimed recent mystery novels to the screen, combining familiar childhood games with high-stakes psychological battles.

What Is Rock, Paper, Landmine About?

The story follows Mato Imoriya, played by Nana Mori, a high school student with an exceptional ability to win games. She becomes involved in a series of underground competitions after entering the games to protect her best friend, Kazahi Koda, played by Aju Makita.

The competitions take ordinary games and introduce new rules that turn them into strategic challenges. The participants are not simply playing for fun: their choices can affect their school lives and futures, with some contests involving chips worth as much as 90 million yen.

One of the central games is “Landmine Glico,” a dangerous twist on rock-paper-scissors. Players who step on a hidden “landmine” are forced to move back 10 spaces, adding another layer of strategy to the familiar game.

Other challenges featured in the series include “Bozu Seijaku,” which combines the Japanese card game Hyakunin Isshu with memory skills, “Free-Verse Rock-Paper-Scissors,” which allows players to introduce their own gestures, and “Daruma Has Counted,” a psychological take on “Red Light, Green Light.”

The series also introduces “Four-Room Poker,” in which players must make strategic decisions while moving between four different rooms.

Who Stars in Rock, Paper, Landmine?

Nana Mori leads the cast as Mato Imoriya, with Aju Makita playing her close friend Kazahi Koda. The series is directed by Kazuaki Seki, whose credits include Kakukakushikajika and Beethoven Forgery, as well as music videos for Japanese artists including Perfume and Sakanaction.

The screenplay comes from Tatsuro Mishima, Shiori Ueno and Daiki Kobayashi, while yuma yamaguchi composed the score.

THE SEVEN is producing the series, with Akira Morii, Shuhei Sekiguchi and Naohito Inaba serving as producers. Filming is being handled by Kadokawa Daiei Studio.

How Does Rock, Paper, Landmine Adapt the Original Novel?

Rock, Paper, Landmine is based on Yugo Aosaki’s Glico with Landmines, a mystery novel that won nine major awards in Japan.

Rather than directly reproducing the source material as a conventional mystery, the live-action adaptation builds its identity around games, strategy and psychological tension. The result is a world where familiar childhood activities become increasingly complex contests in which deception, logic and tactical thinking matter more than physical strength.

The production describes its concept as a “non-lethal death game,” shifting the focus from physical survival to the consequences of winning and losing.

When Does Rock, Paper, Landmine Premiere on Prime Video?

Rock, Paper, Landmine will be available exclusively on Prime Video worldwide from November 13, 2026.

The series adds another Japanese original to Amazon MGM Studios’ international content strategy, while THE SEVEN continues to bring Japanese intellectual properties to global streaming audiences.
