Television New Zealand (TVNZ) has renewed its long-term content agreement with Sony Pictures Television (SPTV), covering programming for its streaming platform TVNZ+ as well as its broadcast channels TVNZ 1, TVNZ 2, and DUKE.

Upcoming series under the deal include The Miniature Wife from Media Res Studios, the four-part Dear England from Left Bank Pictures, The Other Bennet Sister from Bad Wolf, and the Stan/BBC co-production Lord of the Flies.

Nadia Tolich, TVNZ’s chief news and content officer, stated that the agreement ensures Sony’s premium content will be made freely available to audiences across New Zealand. For the six months ending in December, TVNZ reported a net profit after tax of NZ$2.4 million (US$1.41 million), while total revenue declined by 12% to NZ$134 million compared to the same period last year, citing continued disruption in the advertising market from international tech platforms.

TVNZ CEO Jodi O’Donnell described 2026 as a “defining year” as the broadcaster fully implements its digital-first strategy. She emphasized that while short-term costs are expected, the long-term changes will create value for both New Zealand audiences and advertisers.
