FX has released the first trailer for The Shards, the new drama series from Ryan Murphy. Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel of the same name, the series will premiere on August 5 on FX and Hulu, with an international release on Disney+.
Set in Los Angeles in 1981, the story follows 17-year-old Bret, a senior at an elite preparatory school. The arrival of a mysterious new student, Robert Mallory, coincides with the murders committed by The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across the city. Blending themes of identity, sexuality, jealousy, obsession and the darker side of American adolescence, the series offers a haunting coming-of-age story.
The cast includes Igby Rigney, Homer Gere, Kaia Gerber, Hayes Warner, Graham Campbell, Wes Bentley, Evan Rachel Wood and Jordan Roth. The series is produced by 20th Television and Ryan Murphy Productions, with Ryan Murphy, Bret Easton Ellis, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Michael Uppendahl, Max Winkler and Brian Young serving among the executive producers.
