The Oscars 2026 have narrowed down the nominees for 12 award categories.

The Academy announced shortlists in 12 categories for the 98th Oscars. Hundreds of films competed for a place in the list. Major Oscar contenders strengthened their Oscar prospects by appearing in multiple categories. Frankenstein, Hamnet, One Battle After Another and Wicked: For Good emerged as early Oscar frontrunners.

The Animated Short Film shortlist was reduced from 113 qualifying films to 15, and the casting category continues to be part of the program as a relatively new concept.
