NBC has ordered two new crime drama pilots for the 2026-2027 television season.

With these additions, NBC’s total number of pilot orders this week has reached six. Of the six projects, five are crime-focused, while one is a law-themed comedy.

One of the new pilots, What the Dead Know, is produced by Dick Wolf and written by Beth Rinehart. The series is adapted from the memoir of former New York City medical examiner Barbara Butcher. It centers on death investigator Ava Ledger, who works closely with the NYPD to solve complex cases.

The second pilot, Puzzled, is developed by Joey Falco and adapted from Danielle Trussoni’s Puzzle Master novel series. The drama follows Mike Brink, whose perception of the world changes after a traumatic brain injury, enabling him to assist police investigations. Both projects are produced by Universal Television.

NBC had previously ordered pilots including, a detective comedy from Brookly Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor, a drama inspired by FBI behavior science, Protection, which centers on a law enforcement family targeted for assassination, and a modern take on The Rockford Files.
