The first trailer has been released for Clayface, one of the most anticipated and intriguing projects in the new era of DC Studios.

Focusing on one of the Batman universe’s most tragic villains, the film promises a gritty horror atmosphere rather than a traditional superhero narrative.

Directed by James Watkins, known for Eden Lake and The Woman in Black, and written by horror maestro Mike Flanagan alongside Hossein Amini, the film is described by James Gunn as a “body horror” and is slated for a theatrical release on October 23. Due to its intense genre elements, the movie is expected to carry an “R” rating.

The story stars Tom Rhys Harries, recently seen in the Doctor Who episode “Dot and Bubble,” as actor Matt Hagen, whose face is disfigured following a brutal attack. In a desperate attempt to recover, he turns to Dr. Caitlyn Corr (Naomi Ackie), but her experimental science instead transforms his body into a monstrous, clay-like substance.

Clayface features a strong supporting cast including Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, and David Dencik. Within the broader DC Universe, Clayface will be the second theatrical release of the year following Supergirl on June 26, further expanding the franchise alongside the August debut of the Lanterns series.
