For the first time in 16 years, Shrek and Donkey are gearing up for a brand-new adventure, with the freshly released Shrek 5 teaser trailer offering fans their very first glimpse into the film’s storyline.
The upcoming installment follows Shrek, Donkey, and Shrek’s family, which now includes two growing sons and a daughter, as they embark on what Donkey calls a whirlwind, big-city adventure. Naturally, the family road trip does not go as planned, and the entire group, minus Shrek’s daughter, ultimately finds themselves locked up in jail listening to Donkey bray away. The teaser also sneaks in a quick, playful jab at Disney’s Frozen.
In addition to returning core cast members Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Fiona), and Eddie Murphy (Donkey), Shrek 5 introduces an exciting lineup of new voices. Zendaya joins the franchise as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, while Saturday Night Live’s Marcello Hernández and Superman star Skyler Gisondo will voice the ogre couple’s sons, Fergus and Farkle.
Slated for a theatrical release on June 30, 2027, Shrek 5 marks the franchise’s first cinematic entry since Shrek Forever After in 2010. The film is being directed by Walt Dohrn and co-director Brad Ableson, with Gina Shay and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri serving as producers.
