Charlotte Brontë’s iconic novel Jane Eyre is set to return with a brand-new TV adaptation.

The trend of revisiting classic literature for modern adaptations continues, following the popularity of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights and the upcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation.

Jane Eyre series is being produced by UK powerhouse Working Title, with the script written by Miriam Battye, a WGA award-winning writer known for her work on Succession.

Aimee Lou Wood will star in a new TV adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s timeless novel. Wood will bring to life the independent and resilient heroine, Jane Eyre, in this coming-of-age story that follows the orphaned Jane as she navigates love, personal freedom, and social equality in 19th-century England. Iconic characters, including Mr. Rochester, are also set to appear in the series.

Previous adaptations include Ruth Wilson (2006 TV), Mia Wasikowska (2011 film), and Charlotte Gainsbourg (1996 film). Discussions are underway with a UK broadcaster to join the project. The series’ release will coincide with the 180th anniversary of the novel’s first publication in 2027.

Wood, who recently received Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe nominations for The White Lotus, and starred in Sex Education, is also set to appear in the film Anxious People and Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles project.
