The German event series The Widow Killer has secured new European sales deals ahead of its domestic premiere.

Canal+ has acquired the rights for the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, while SVT has picked up the series for Sweden.

The Widow Killer is set to premiere in Germany on ARD on April 3 (Good Friday), before launching later in the year on Austria’s ServusTV and the Czech Republic’s Česká Televize.

Set in Nazi-occupied Prague during the final days of World War II, the story follows rookie Czech detective Jan Morava, who is forced to team up with Gestapo agent Erwin Buback after the brutal murder of a Wehrmacht general’s widow. As they hunt for a serial killer, Morava’s fiancée Jitka goes undercover as bait, while actress Marleen is revealed to have a secret alliance with Buback.

The series is adapted from the novel of the same name by Pavel Kohout. It is produced by Zeitgeist Filmproduktion and Epo-Film Austria. International distribution is handled by Intvition, with Bravado Equity serving as gap financier. The drama is being marketed in both two-part and four-part versions.
