Beta Film and Millstreet Films are expanding the world of the hit series Maxima with a new spin-off project titled The Other Royals – A Maxima Story.

The new series was announced ahead of the second season premiere of Maxima, while a third season is also currently in development.

Maxima (12 hours), distributed internationally by Beta Film, has been sold to 85 territories worldwide. The series broke records on RTL Netherlands’ streaming platform Videoland, achieved strong ratings on Rai in Italy, TV2 in Denmark and Atresmedia in Spain, and ranked in the Top 10 on HBO’s streaming platform Max in Latin America for multiple weeks.

The five-hour spin-off The Other Royals is set in 1999 and follows Mabel Wisse Smit and Margarita de Bourbon de Parme as they meet their future royal partners.

The series is produced by Millstreet Films in co-production with FBO and Beta Film. Claire Bender and Bram Suijker take on the leading roles, while Delfina Chaves and Martijn Lakemeier reprise their roles. Saskia Diesing, who directed the original series will direct the spin-off alongside Hiba Vink.

Maxima will return to Dutch screens with its second season on March 14.

Beta Film is handling international sales for all titles in the franchise.
