BBC has acquired Miriam Margolyes Made Me Me, a feature-length documentary about actor Miriam Margolyes.

The 60-minute film was shot entirely on a mobile phone over the course of two years by BAFTA-winning director Simon Draper. Originally conceived as an attempt to create a podcast with Margolyes, the project evolved into a documentary as the actor’s busy and often chaotic schedule reshaped the production process.

The film offers candid, joyful and at times brutally honest reflections on Margolyes’ extraordinary life and career, capturing intimate moments through its stripped-back production approach.

The documentary is set to air this spring on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer. In 2025, Zinc Media-owned Rex TV boarded the project, with additional post-production support provided across the Zinc Media group. International sales will be handled by Zinc Distribution.

Its entirely mobile-shot format stands out as a compelling example of low-budget yet creatively ambitious documentary filmmaking, highlighting how accessible technology can enable deeply personal storytelling.
