Following his international success with Mami Wata, director C.J. ‘Fiery’ Obasi is moving forward with his new psychological drama, A Blue Butterfly.

After wrapping principal photography in London, A Blue Butterfly is now heading to Rwanda for its final stages. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast led by Steve Toussaint (House of the Dragon) and Sanaa Lathan (Succession), with newly announced additions including Lucian Msamati (Conclave), Anton Lesser (Andor), and Eliane Umuhire (A Quiet Place: Day One).

This character-driven drama, penned by Toussaint himself, explores profound themes of survivor’s guilt, redemption, and the agonizing impossibility of self-forgiveness. The story centers on Sentwali (Toussaint), a man living in self-imposed exile as a limousine driver, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he connects with a charismatic actress (Lathan), leading him to contemplate a future for the first time in decades.

For Obasi, the project holds deep personal significance; as a child of parents who survived a genocide, he noted a visceral connection to the script’s exploration of trauma and healing, promising a cinematic piece that is both deeply human and visually evocative.
