Portugal’s SIC has premiered A Greater Destiny, a new telenovela adapted from Kanal D’s Hicran, extending the broadcaster’s multiplatform strategy with Disney+ and its own streaming service Opto.

The drama debuted on September 14 and quickly made an impact in Portugal, attracting more than one million viewers and taking the lead in its time slot. It recorded a 7.7% rating and an 18.8% audience share.

How Is A Greater Destiny Being Distributed?

A Greater Destiny is being released simultaneously across SIC, Opto and Disney+. The streaming platforms are also giving viewers early access to five episodes each week, allowing audiences to stay ahead of the linear broadcast.

The launch follows the success of Vitória, another international adaptation released through the SIC and Disney+ partnership.

What Is A Greater Destiny About?

The series centres on Lúcia Cruz, a woman who has spent years dealing with the trauma of losing her newborn daughter.

After an unexpected accident leads her to a job at the wealthy Ferreira do Vale estate, Lúcia is asked to look after a young girl without knowing that the child is actually her daughter. As their relationship develops, Lúcia also becomes emotionally involved with Eduardo, her employer.

Her new life gradually becomes complicated by secrets, deception and betrayals that threaten to expose the truth she has been unknowingly searching for.

Which International Drama Is A Greater Destiny Based On?

A Greater Destiny is adapted from Hicran, the Turkish drama produced by Filmevi Yapım for Inter Medya and Telemundo. The Portuguese version expands SIC’s growing catalogue of locally produced adaptations of internationally successful scripted formats.

The cast includes Sarra Barradas, Rita Blanco, Sofia Ribeiro and Diogo Amaral.

SIC International Distribution will also take A Greater Destiny to MIPCOM Cannes, where its sales team will present the title alongside short-form series, factual programming and established drama properties including Chapters of Life, Broken Promise and a new version of Vitória.
