Peacock has officially put into development The Intern, a new series adaptation based on Michele Campbell’s 2023 novel of the same name, with Julia Cohen attached to write and executive produce the project.
Described as a sexy, twisty legal thriller exploring power, corruption, and the true nature of justice, the story draws heavily from Campbell’s own background as a graduate of Harvard University and Stanford Law School.
The Intern follows Harvard law student Madison Rivera, who strikes a deal with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to save her arrested brother by infiltrating the chambers of Boston’s most powerful jurist, Judge Kathryn Conroy, though the undercover mission soon spirals into a dangerous game of obsession between two brilliant women who are more alike than they care to admit.
Hailing from Universal Television, The Intern series features an executive producing lineup from State Street Pictures including Robert Teitel, George Tillman Jr., and Robert Prinz, with Tillman also expected to direct, while the book’s author, Michele Campbell, serves as a producer.
Writer Julia Cohen previously created, developed, and co-showran the ABC series The Company You Keep and recently served as an executive producer on USA Network’s adaptation of John Grisham’s The Rainmaker, while author Michele Campbell, a former federal prosecutor, is widely known for bestselling thriller novels such as It’s Always the Husband and The Wife Who Knew Too Much.
