STUDIOCANAL has acquired a majority stake in Italian production and distribution company Lucky Red.
The deal strengthens the company’s direct presence in the Italian market while opening new international growth opportunities for Lucky Red.
Lucky Red was founded in Rome in 1987 by Andrea Occhipinti and has released more than 600 films.
Its catalogue includes works by acclaimed directors such as Bong Joon-ho, Paolo Sorrentino, Michael Haneke, Luca Guadagnino and Danny Boyle.
STUDIOCANAL and Lucky Red previously collaborated on titles including Inside Llewyn Davis, Heidi, and We Live in Time. Upcoming projects from the partnership include Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, Elsinore, Violette (Changer l’eau des fleurs), and Fonda.
STUDIOCANAL currently operates distribution and production businesses in 11 European territories. Lucky Red recently scored box office success with films such as The Boy and the Heron, Perfect Days, and Emilia Perez.
The company has also expanded into television with projects for RAI, Netflix, Prime Video, and Sky.
