Mikel Santiago, one of Spain‘s most popular suspense novel authors celebrated for acclaimed works like El hijo olvidado and La última noche en Tremore Beach, is officially stepping into television for the first time in his career.
Mikel Santiago’s debut project, a gripping six-part drama titled Boga, centers on a team of five young rowers whose lives are upended right after qualifying for the most important championship final of their careers.
In a tragic turn of events, they accidentally run over a young woman. Desperate to protect their athletic futures, the group decides to cover up the crime and forge a strict pact of silence, but their loyalty to one another is soon pushed to the brink by an unfolding police investigation and the crushing weight of their own guilt.
Filming for the psychological thriller kicked off on June 15 and is set to continue over the coming weeks across the scenic Spanish regions of Bizkaia and Álava. The series is directed by Mikel Rueda, who also shares screenwriting credits with Mikel Santiago and Txemi Parra.
Brought to life through a joint production by Plano a Plano Bilbao, Euskadi Movie, and Producciones Innatas AIE, the project features a talented cast led by Iraia Elias and Mikel Losada, starring alongside Mikel Niso, Mikel Kaye, Iker Roca, Markel Sainz, and Ander Martínez.
Viewers will be able to catch the series on Primeran, the digital streaming platform operated by the Basque region’s public audiovisual group, EITB. Meanwhile, global audiences won’t have to wait long to experience the suspense, as ITV Studios, which acquired a majority stake in production company Plano a Plano last year, is officially handling international distribution for the series.
