Netflix is working on an exclusive new series titled The Rat (WT), based on the Kakao Entertainment Webtoon Field Mouse. Field Mouse is an intriguing story, inspired by an old Korean folktale where a rat transforms into a human by consuming clipped fingernails.
The series stars Ryu Jun-yeol (Revelations, The 8 Show), who portrays Moon-jae, a sociophobic novelist who leads a reclusive life. One day, he can’t unlock his phone with his fingerprint and cannot reach his only friend for help, who turns out to be missing. Moon-jae’s name, identity, and finances are stolen, and the culprit is none other than the mysterious figure “Rat”. Moon-jae sets out on a journey to learn the truth and reclaim his life when he runs into No-ja, portrayed by Sul Kyung-gu (The Whirlwind, Kill Boksoon). A loan shark who runs a private detective agency, No-ja, has pursued Moon-jae for an unpaid loan before. When their paths crossed years later, No-ja is convinced to help Moon-jae with his hunt for the “Rat”.
The Rat (WT) will be directed by Kim Hong-sun, who has worked on acclaimed crime shows such as Dear Hongrang, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, The Guest, L.U.C.A.: The Beginning and Voice. The series is written by Lee Jae-gon, known for classic crime shows like Special Affairs Team TEN and A Model Family. The Rat is co-produced by CJes Studios, H.House, and Kakao Entertainment, which has previously adapted webtoons and web novels into popular productions like Karma, Call It Love, and Business Proposal.
