Bestselling author Kimberly McCreight’s upcoming novel Someone Else’s Husband has been acquired for television development ahead of its publication.
The TV rights have been secured by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment, with the book already being listed among the most anticipated releases of summer 2026 before its June 16 launch.
McCreight will co-write the adaptation and serve as an executive producer. Someone Else’s Husband follows Gretchen Falk, a wealthy Park Avenue wife whose life begins to unravel after her husband Richard embarks on a climbing expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro. During the trip, Richard has an affair with an artist named Frankie, who is later murdered, making him the prime suspect in the case.
As the investigation unfolds, Gretchen is forced to confront both the secrets her husband has been hiding and uncomfortable truths about her own life. Blending themes of love, betrayal, loss and deception, Someone Else’s Husband explores the consequences of the secrets people keep.
Lionsgate Television executives have described the project as an addictive, emotionally layered thriller with strong series potential. Producer Erwin Stoff added that the story’s compelling characters and unexpected twists will keep audiences guessing throughout. Following the appointment of a showrunner, the project is expected to be taken to market in search of a broadcaster or streaming platform.
The development continues McCreight’s remarkable track record, with every one of her books having been optioned for either film or television adaptation.
