Beta Film has successfully sold the rights to the hit Greek drama The Beach (known locally as Paralia) to Italy’s RAI, with negotiations for additional European territories currently in their final stages.
The series’ 144-episode first season is scheduled to premiere on RAI 2 on June 8th. Produced by Foss Productions in co-production with the Greek public broadcaster ERT, the show became a major phenomenon in Greece, where it tripled the channel’s average prime-time performance and reached nearly one in three daily viewers.
Set in Matala, Crete, in 1969, the narrative follows a murder that exposes the complicated entanglements between a local hippie commune and the village community. In addition to The Beach, Beta Film is actively promoting other premium Greek productions internationally, including The Great Chimera, Silent Road, and Yorgos Zois’ award-winning feature film, Arcadia.
Highlighting the synergy behind the deal, RAI officials emphasized that the strong cultural affinity and shared landscape between Italy and Greece were key drivers for the collaboration, while the producers expressed confidence that the show’s character-driven storytelling and universal themes would resonate deeply with international audiences.
