American author Brandon Sanderson’s highly popular science fiction novel, Skyward, the first installment in his expansive Cytoverse series, is officially heading to the small screen.

Skyward series is being developed by the U.S.-based Tomorrow Studios, a prominent partner of ITV Studios. Set in a harrowing universe where humanity is trapped on a desolate planet and remains under constant assault from mysterious alien forces, the story follows a determined young pilot who dreams of joining the elite fighter corps to defend the human race and redeem her disgraced father’s legacy.

The highly anticipated adaptation has assembled a powerhouse creative team to bring this vision to life. The pilot episode is currently being penned by Brandon Sanderson himself in collaboration with the acclaimed writer-producer husband-and-wife duo Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, the creative forces behind Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

In addition to their writing duties, Sanderson, Whedon, and Tancharoen will serve as executive producers alongside Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein and president Becky Clements. With such a robust team at the helm, the project aims to translate the novel’s thrilling themes of courage, curiosity, and defiance into a compelling television experience.
