The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise might be setting sail again. The last film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released in 2017, and now a new installment, currently referred to as Pirates of the Caribbean 6, is in early development.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed he has spoken with Johnny Depp about returning, and that Captain Jack Sparrow could make a comeback.
“If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it.” Bruckheimer said. “It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know… We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close.”
Johnny Depp has largely stayed away from Hollywood following his highly publicized legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard, spending recent years focused on music and touring with his band, Hollywood Vampires. But now, he’s reportedly ready to step back into acting and take on new projects.
It remains unclear when Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will complete pre-production, and there’s no release date announced so far.
