The popular dark fantasy light novel series Blade & Bastard, created by Kumo Kagyu, is officially getting an anime adaptation.

Based on the legendary Wizardry video game franchise, which heavily shaped the evolution of modern role-playing games, the upcoming Blade & Bastard series follows Iarumas, a man resurrected deep inside a dungeon with no memories of his past life who makes a living retrieving the corpses of fallen adventurers.

His grim routine changes when he encounters Garbage, a feral young swordswoman and the sole survivor of a massacred party, setting off a dark adventure as they venture deeper into the dungeon to uncover the truth of his identity.

Directed by Tomoki Kobayashi and animated by studio xingfu, the adaptation features a star-studded voice cast including Makoto Furukawa as Iarumas and Tomori Kusunoki as Garbage.

Ahead of its release, HIDIVE has already launched the English-subtitled teaser trailer on its YouTube channel, and the production team is hosting two special industry and Q&A panels during the Anime Expo 2026 weekend on July 4th.
