The new crime drama starring Matthew Goode Dept. Q is set to premiere today, May 29, on Netflix. Adapted from the novel with the same name by Danish author Jussi Aler-Olsen, the series follows the story of Carl Mock, a former top-rated detective from Edinburgh.

In the series, we meet Mock (Goode) as a troubled figure who is still trying to recover from a tragic attack that left his partner paralyzed and caused the death of a fellow police officer. Mock gets promoted to the cold case unit Department Q by his boss, in an effort to help the declining finances of the Scottish police force and stop the rising number of crimes. Leading a team of misfits, Mock soon begins to uncover dark secrets.

The main cast includes Matthew Goode (Downtown Abbey, Stoker), Chloe Pirrie (The Game, An Inspector Calls), Jamie Sives, Mark Bonnar, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, Kate Dickie, Shirley Henderson, Kelly Macdonald and Tom Bulpett.

The series is written and directed by Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit, Godless), reuniting with Goode after their collaboration on The Lookout. While the book series takes place in Copenhagen, Denmark, Frank takes the story up to Scotland, bringing the English mannerism into the play.

Dept. Q is executive produced by Scott Frank, Andy Harries, and Rob Bullock and is produced Left Bank Pictures, Flitcraft, and Sony Pictures Television.
